5 Reasons to make a lawn part of your garden

5 Reasons to make a lawn part of your garden

Posted by Lisa Taylor on 5th Jun 2018

1. It’s good for the environment

Grass conserves water and cleans the air. Grass needs water to thrive, and having a lawn can help reduce storm run-off water in your garden. All plants produce oxygen – a lawn that is 50 ft by 50 ft is said to produce enough oxygen for a family of four! As well as producing oxygen, grass absorbs carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide – grassy areas alone are said to trap around 12 million tons of dust and dirt from the air each year.

2. It helps to keep your home cool

Not that many people know that grass helps to lower the surface temperature around your home. Compared to streets and drive ways it is 50 – 70 degrees cooler. During the warm summer days you will feel cooler on grassy areas than anywhere else.

3. It cleans itself

Lawns clean themselves by absorbing rain water and garden debris. Have you ever seen someone wash a lawn? While regular maintenance is required to keep your lawn looking in tip top condition, you know that your garden won’t need washed.

4. It adds value to a property

Estate agents have confirmed that having a well maintained lawn and landscaped garden adds value to a property.

5. Grass is good for you!

It’s true, grass is good for you. Research has shown that standing barefoot on grass reduces your heart rate and blood pressure – bringing your stress levels down. Using your lawn brings you back to nature and instills a sense of calm. In contrast - it is also the best surface for playing on and having fun.

Oh, have we mentioned the smell of freshly cut grass?
